What My Week Is Like

It's been forever since I last posted. This blog is not going as I had hoped it would. Part of the problem is that I'm working so damn much. Since I got the job at the college, I am working every day. I must say that I enjoy the work at the college more than at the high school. It's the basic interest level of the students. In the high school, many of the students seem to be just waiting for class to be over - i.e. they are not listening. At the college, the students have opinions and although they may not be absolutely thrilled with the subject matter, they seem to be engaged on some level, if only to suck up the information.

Last Friday, after my last class (at the college), I was headed home when I started counting how many "classes" I have in one week between the two schools. For this bit, I will define "class" as one lesson. Like today, I had Logistics from 11:00 to 12:30. So in one week, I have twenty-one (21) of those. Now, some of them are 45 minutes, some are 70 and some are 90, but when they are all laid out on a schedule, I have 21 for this period.

Then on Monday, I was going from one school to the next and I realized that I have seven classes on Mondays. Further, I am standing in front of people teaching on Monday for six hours and fifty-five minutes. That's a long day. The good thing is that through the week, I have Logistics six times, Strategic Planning three times and one of my English classes twice, so it's not like I'm planning 21 separate classes. Still, it's an exhausting week.

To top it off, I don't have a desk or really any place to park, which is permanent or regular, at the college. Today, I got a little frustrated with my colleague/supervisor/friend Sally. I said, "It's just really frustrating." She said, "Well, you'll just have to get over it. Relax." I said, "Part of the problem is that I am stressed about it, but part of the problem is the problem." She said, "I'll go now."

And I thought, That was sort of brilliant. It was. Then I calmed down. There's really nothing to do about it. It's just a sucky situation for now and I will have to be a tree - and bend.
