The "Other" School

I have just begun a new job at a college. I say "just begun" because I am currently enjoying my first day at the new job. I met with three students individually for a half hour. All three students are Finnish and will be leaving at the end of the month to move back to Finland for a year before returning to Holland to continue their schooling here.

  • The first was a brilliant, bright, positive girl. No problem.

  • The second was a little more low key. Still smiling, but I could tell there was something brewing underneath. She doesn't seem thrilled with going back to Finland. She was a little discontent with how the second term here went.

  • The third was a young man who was very sad. I left thinking, "Someone needs a hug." Poor guy. He's not sure he wants to be in business school. Very stressy.

Interesting to be talking to these people and to be their "coach." Interesting having the background that I do and doing this job. I've also talked to a man today about taking a couple of classes. This is all a part of my master plan to be here next year instead of the high school, which I really enjoy in a lot of ways. I'll write more about that later. I'm currently sitting with my back to the office door and, thus, my computer monitor towards the door, which I don't love.

A guy just shool my hand and it was like a vice. Not at all one of those nice, firm grips. More of an act of aggression.

Also, just as a reminder to myself, a kid yesterday at school came over and asked me a stupid question. It was sort of kiss assy. What I think he was really doing was checking out the name of my blog. The name was right a the top of the page. It was my other blog where I talk about school very little and it's all very "G" rated, in case my mother should happen to decide to read it - very unlikely.
