Dress Code

Apparently there is not dress code for teachers at this school. My first thought was to wear wool pants, trousers, or slacks and an ironed shirt. That turned out to be too much. Yesterday, I wore some pants that were very jean like, but weren't exactly jeans.

In the hall, I passed a colleague, a 50 year old man, who was wearing little capri type pants (something you'd wear when combing a beach) and a T-shirt. Today I'm wearing jeans and an ironed long sleeve shirt from the Gap. I stressed "ironed" because most of my colleagues obviously don't.

People were told at the first of the year to wear clothing that will make the students respect you. What that means is obviously not the same in my native land as it is here. So I wear jeans. That's fine with me. I don't care. We'll see what happens in the winter. People seem to be hanging on to the last little bits of summer, even if it means they just dress like it's still summer.

Of course with no air conditioning ("airco" they call it here) it doesn't pay to dress up too much. When I got home yesterday, I was covered in a thin layer of grease from the low level sweating I was doing all day. Plus, the trains were without airco for much of the long ride home.

The kids wear some pretty racy little outfits. Lots of cleavage and mesh going on with these girls. Seems like they're just asking for trouble. But who am I to say?
